During my LinkedIn training sessions and workshops, I’m asked this question a lot:
How can I turn off the broadcast of my activities on LinkedIn?
As an example, editing the title of your current position may send an update to your network. It will indicate you have a new job and suggest that people say “Congrats.” If you don’t want this notification to be sent you can turn off your activity broadcasts.
First, go into Privacy & Settings (drop down menu under the upper-right corner thumbnail of your picture, you’ll likely have to login again to confirm it’s really you) and then look for what’s circled on the screen grab below:
And you can even limit who can see your activity on LinkedIn.
So, while LinkedIn hasn’t made it possible to turn off ALL your activity broadcasts, you can turn off quite a few as noted above.
However, according to LinkedIn, the following will be posted regardless of your activity settings:
-Adding or changing your profile photo
-Connecting with other LinkedIn members. Note: You can, however, turn the notification off when you make a new connection by hiding your connection list. (Do this also within Privacy Controls and look for “Select who can see your connections” option.)
-Group Activity – You now have the option to turn this off within your Group settings, if you don’t, an activity will post. Learn more about preventing updates when you join a group HERE.
-Sharing content
-Following a company
-Upgrading to a Premium acount (doesn’t apply to Job Seeker account)
-Following an Influencer, Channel, or Publisher
-When you “Like” shared content
